The All-Knowing God

The All-Knowing God

He knows the secrets of the heart. Psalm 44:21

Each of us walk around with some secret that we will not or dare not share with the world. We have secret thoughts, words and actions. We have shared some secrets with persons who we trust with the hope that they do not share it with anyone else. However, sometimes we know the results – persons share our secrets with others.

Psalm 44 is attributed to the Sons of Korah. They first recall how God delivered, blessed and sustained the people of Israel in the past. However, for them, God has now abandoned them and have caused them shame and disgrace even though they have been faithful to him. They now call on God to account for his treatment of them because God knows even the secrets of their hearts.

This text has caused me to reflect on the following:
Our Knowledge is Limited – It’s amazing how limited our knowledge is; there is so much we do not know. No matter how much education and knowledge we acquire, academic accolades we achieve, books and other sources we read, or experiences we have, our knowledge is not just limited, but minute. We are all ignorant in one aspect of life or another. When we truly recognize this, then we will not be arrogant nor seek to exalt ourselves, but demonstrate humility before the all-knowing God. We will not elevate ourselves above others but remember our shortcomings and be patient with others.

God’s Knowledge is Limitless – In the midst of our ignorance, God’s knowledge has no limits. The truth is that our limitedness cannot even perceive what it truly means to have limitless knowledge. There is nothing outside of the knowledge of God, nothing surprises nor shocks God, and nothing catches God unaware. He has full knowledge of everything and everyone everywhere, for the eyes of the Lord are everywhere keeping watch over the evil and the good. (Proverbs 15:3) Even feelings and emotions that we are not able to express are known by God.

We Really have no Personal Secrets – All things are in full view of the God of limitless knowledge, thus we have no secrets to ourselves because God knows. God is not waiting for us to tell him for him to know; he is already fully aware. We may carry pain and distress deep within yet walk around smiling, but God knows. We may walk around sporting expensive things yet having financial problems, but God knows. We may walk around looking strong and healthy yet suffering serious health challenges, but God knows. We may look grey-hair-free and young yet aging with black-dyed hair, but God knows since even the hairs on our head are numbered by the Lord. (Luke 12:7) God invites us to call upon him, not to make him aware, but to cast our cares upon him, demonstrate our dependence on him and strengthen our relationship with him. Let’s remember that nothing is hidden from God; there is no hiding place. As we think, speak and act, we must remain conscious that we are entirely exposed to and before God.

Prayer from the Daily Texts (American Version):
God, you know us so intimately that even the hairs on our heads are counted. Thank you for the assurance that we need not hide any part of our lives from you. You love us always. In your holy name we pray. Amen.

Till next week, let’s lay bare before the All-Knowing God and allow him to lead us.
