The Covenant Moravian Church is a congregation of the Moravian Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands (MCJCI). The MCJCI is a Province of the Moravian Church worldwide (Unitas Fratrum – Unity of the Brethren) and the Unity is present in every continent across the world except Australia. The Unity is a part of the Church universal, the Body of Christ.
The Moravian Church came into being on March 1, 1457 spurred by the teachings and actions of John Hus. Hus led a movement against the corrupt and false teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and was burnt at the stake on July 6, 1415. A band of people from Moravia and Bohemia in Germany found themselves on the estate of Count Nicholas Ludwig Von Zinzendorf. Here the church developed and sent missionaries across the world. On December 9, 1754, three Moravian missionaries arrived in Jamaica to begin work here. Today, 58 congregations and 5 Fellowships are in Jamaica. Two hundred and twenty-five years after Moravian work started in Jamaica, this congregation at Covenant was established.
Together with the Church universal, we Moravians share faith in God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe and confess that God revealed Himself in His Son Jesus Christ, that our Lord has redeemed us by His death and resurrection and there is no salvation apart from Christ. We believe that God is present with us in the Word and Sacraments and He directs and unites us through His Spirit and thus forms us into the Church. We declare Christ as Head and Chief Elder of our Church, we hear Him summoning us to follow Him and pray Him to use us in His service.
Here at Covenant Moravian, we are a Family-Focused, Community-Oriented Church. We strive to be a caring and supportive Family, Brothers and Sisters in Christ, where God is our Father, we are joint-heirs with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is our Guide, Comforter and Advocate.
We also endeavour to be Community-Oriented where we provide opportunities for people to encounter the presence of Christ through the ministries we offer. These include, Health Fairs, Feeding programme, Homework Programme, Educational Institute and Computer Lab and Learning Centre.
As members of this Family and people of the community, everyone is able to find a place and a space to utilize our God-given gifts as true Stewards. Auxilliaries include: The Men’s Fellowship, Women’s Fellowship, Youth Fellowship, Sunday School and Choirs. There are also Boards and Committees where we can serve.
As part of the Moravian Church, we are led by our motto, “Our Lamb Has Conquered, Let Us Follow Him”.
WELCOME TO COVENANT MORAVIAN, A REAL FAMILY HOME
Moravians
*Believe in God as Father, Jesus Christ as Saviour, and the Holy Spirit as Sanctifier (Philippians 2:11, 1 Peter 1:2. Hebrews 9:14, 2nd Corinthians 13:14)
*Believe and confess that God revealed Himself in His Son Jesus Christ and that our Lord has redeemed us by His death and resurrection
*Stress Salvation by faith in Jesus Christ and Grace as making Salvation possible (Ephesians 2:8, Romans 5:8, Romans 10:10)
*Acknowledge the Bible as the Word of God and the Rule of faith. (1st Timothy 4:16, Leviticus 3:16,17) The primary means by which humans know God’s love and favor is through God’s Word. The Word of God addresses the church in the world through the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.
*Believe that there is one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We practise the Baptism of Believers and Infants as a sign of incorporation into the Body of Christ (Acts 16:33,34 Romans 6:3)
*Administer Confirmation as a sign of the Gift of the Spirit for those baptized as Infants (Acts 8:17, 2nd Timothy 1:6)
*Celebrate the Sacraments instituted by Jesus Christ, Baptism (Matthew 28:19) and Holy Communion (Mark 14:22-25). The bread and wine at Holy Communion are received as a symbol of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ
*Believe that God is present with us in the Word and Sacraments
*Expect every member to live following the Gospel of Christ (Philippians 1:29)
*Jesus’ sacrificial death for the sinful rebellion of humanity
*Jesus’ Resurrection, Ascension and Exaltation to the Right Hand of the Father
*Jesus’ sending of the Holy Spirit to strengthen, sustain and empower believers
*Jesus’ eventual return, in majesty, to judge the living and the dead
*The Kingdom of Christ shall never end
*God directs and unites us through His Spirit and thus forms us into the Church
*We declare Christ as Head and Chief Elder of our Church, we hear Him summoning us to follow Him and pray Him to use us in His service.

*We earnestly oppose all superstitions, obeahism and false revivalism (Leviticus 19:31, Galatians 5:19-20)
*We will avoid envy, malice, revenge, strive, quarrelling, and evil speaking. We seek to be truthful and live in the spirit of peace and good-will remembering that lying, profane language, and other sins of the tongue are contrary to the spirit of Christ. (John 13:34, Ephesians 4:31-32)
